How we look after your family's data
A short overview of how TARK Learn handles children's data, school records, AI and logs. The Privacy Policy has the details.
Effective October 7, 2026What TARK Learn is
A family study coach, in a private pilot with a small number of families. Parents run the account: a parent creates it, adds each child, and switches the study coach on for each child with their OK. Children sign in with a code from the parent's app, or a learner ID and PIN; they don't need an email address.
Children's data
- We keep only what the coach needs: a child's first name, grade, school and subjects, the school records you sync, and their practice.
- Each child's records are kept apart, even when siblings share one school account.
- You can see, correct, copy or delete your family's data, one child or the whole family, at any time.
- We don't sell it, don't show ads, and no one trains AI models on it.
School sites
The TARK Learn browser extension reads the school sites you connect, only when you press Sync, and read-only: it never clicks, submits or changes anything there, reads only pages the parent can already see, and never reads or keeps school passwords. What it reads is saved for your family, for each child separately.
AI
- Ira, TARK's AI coach, runs on Amazon Bedrock, part of AWS, in TARK Learn's own AWS account. Bedrock gets only what each job needs and never school passwords.
- Amazon doesn't use it to train AI models, and Bedrock's logging of requests is turned off.
- Ira is built to coach, not to do graded work, and is tested against requests to do it.
- Answers in practice are checked before a child sees them, and answer keys are shown only to the parent.

No tracking tools
TARK Learn has no analytics, session recording, ad or tracking tools, in the app, the website or the extension, and a check on every change to our code keeps it that way. Our logs hold times, request addresses, status codes and error messages. Our server and load-balancer logs, which include IP addresses, are kept 30 days for security.
How the service is protected
- Families, children and TARK staff sign in separately; TARK staff see a family's data only when needed to help them, keep the service running, or look into misuse.
- Your family's data is stored in TARK Learn's own AWS account, encrypted, with database backups kept 7 days.
- Files you add are stored privately and kept only as long as the Privacy Policy says.
- Background work and code in practice run apart from the website.
No online service can promise that nothing will ever go wrong; we keep what we collect to what the coach needs.
Schools
TARK Learn is chosen and run by families, not by schools. A school or district that wanted to use it with students would need a written agreement with us first.
Legal review
These pages describe the private pilot. Before TARK Learn opens to more families, its privacy and consent wording will be reviewed by a lawyer.
